- November is American Diabetes Month! The Hult Health Education Center & Proctor Hospital will present "Living Your Life with Diabetes" in recognition of American Diabetes Month, with educational sessions through November. The Hult Center is located at 5215 N. Knoxville Ave. on the campus of Proctor Hospital. Educational sessions are FREE, but space is limited. To register, please call 692-6650.
- Power 92.3 (a Regent Communications station) is working today to help tomorrow by holding their second annual Blanket Peoria charity blanket drive from now through December 14th. The drive is designed to collect new blankets that will be donated to local shelters and missions to assist in keeping people warm this winter. Power 92.3's goal is to collect 100 blankets this year. New blankets can be donated at RadioPlex in Downtown Peoria and at Little Caesar's Pizza locations in Peoria and Pekin. The blankets will be donated to various charities on December 14th.
- CEFCU announces two new ways to help members plan and save for the future. The My Save Certificate is a convenient way to build savings. With only a $5 minimum deposit, members have the ability to open a Certificate and make additional deposits of any amount throughout the year, up to $1000, and still earn a regular 12-month Certificate rate. At the end of the 12-month term if the balance is $1000 or more, the My Save Certificate will automatically be rolled into a regular Certificate with a 12month term. If the balance is less than $1000, the Certificate will renew into another 12month My Save Certificate. Also, CEFCU has a new College Planning Tool that can help parents save for and reduce college costs. The tool is FREE to CEFCU Members and can be found on CEFCU's website site, www.cefcu.com
- Robert Morris University proudly welcomes the following adjunct faculty for their Fall quarter: Jacob Grant - Institute of Art & Design, Marcus Greiner - School of Business Administration, Dexter Grueber - School of Business Administration, and Loren Gill - Morris Graduate School of Management.
- Area students have been honored by CEFCU and Children's Hospital of Illinois for having their designs selected for the 2009 holiday greeting cards. This is the 25th year CEFCU has sponsored the contest to select designs for the cards. The CEFCU Brighten a Child's Life greeting card sale generated more than $25,000 in 2008 to benefit Children's Hospital. The cards, which cost $10 for a package of 20 cards, will be sold at various locations, including all area CEFCU member centers, all area Kroger stores, and the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center gift shop, beginning in early November.
- Methodist medical Center announced the October, 2009 Employees of the Month. Their peers in areas of patient care, nursing, and non-nursing support recognize three separate employees. The three selected were: Mara Robbins, RN of Morton selected for the category of Nursing; Bobbie Dean of Mapleton for non-nursing support; and, Pam Hicklin of Chillicothe who works in Medical Imaging. All three were honored at a hospital reception on Wednesday, October 28th.
- For the second year in a row, the Methodist Medical Center website, MyMethodist.net, has won the Web Marketing Association WebAward for Outstanding Achievement in Website Development of a Health Care Website.
- Legacy Insurance Agency of Illinois announces the addition of Lori Wallace as a sales representative. Lori is a District Sales Coordinator for AFLAC, and will continue in that capacity while now being able to provide additional Life and Health benefits to her customers. - Beginning July 1, 2010, Proctor Hospital will join Caterpillar's preferred provider network. The Hospital is served by over 400 top physicians and specialists; a highly skilled and experienced clinical staf; and provides complete medical services utilizing state of the art technology. Proctor has been part of the central Illinois' healthcare community since 1882.
- Methodist Medical Center has earned the Gold Seal of Approval for Health Care Quality from the Joint Commission, a national, not-for-profit health accrediting organization. The Joint commission has awarded Methodist its Disease Specific Care Certifications for Pneumonia, Heart Failure, Acute Myocardial Infarction, Sleeping disorders, Joint Replacement-Knee, Joint Replacement-Hip, and Advanced Primary Stroke Center. To earn these distinctions, Methodist volunteered to undergo extensive, on-site evaluations.
- The Certifying Commission in Medical Management (CCMM) has designated Dr. Rick Anderson a Certified Physician Executive. Dr. Anderson is Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for Methodist Medical Center. The CPE designation, used in signatory, indicates that Dr. Anderson has achieved superior levels of professional excellence and management education, while also demonstrating effective knowledge and leadership skills.

- Jim Ash Designs was recently selected by the Village of Peoria Heights to provide landscape architectural and site planning services for a new neighborhood park in the southern portion of the Village. The assignment will include design of the park site itself as well as an important pedestrian connection to the proposed trail system adjacent to the park site, and visitor amenities along portions of the adjacent trail. Jim Ash Designs provides landscape architecture and site planning services to public and private clients throughout central Illinois for projects of all sizes and types.
