  • There have been many changes going on at the Times Newspapers.   Effective March 1st, Stephanie Gomes will be Editor of the East Peoria-Times Courier, Jeanette Kendall will be the Executive Editor of the TimesNewspapers, and Linda Smith-Brown will be the Publisher of the TimesNewspapers.  Congratulations to all!

  • East Peoria Curves Relay Team will participate in East Peoria Culver's fundraising night on Tuesday, March 30th from 4-6 p.m.  10% of the night's proceeds will be donated to their Relay for Life 2010 team fundraising.   East Peoria Curves also welcomes Healthways SilverSneakers.  SilverSneakers members are now eligible to join Curves at no cost.  You should check with your supplemental insurance providers to see if you quality for a total or partial reimbursement of your monthly Curves fee. 
  • Jeff Kohlbus, President of Traders Realty Corporation, announced the 2009 Winners at the Award Banquet on Thursday, February 18th.  Traders celebrated its 72nd year in the real estate business.  Annastasia High was the Outstanding First Year Associate; Laure Behrens received the Rising Star Award; Jeff Dixon was the Outstanding Listing Associate; Vickie Stiehl - Most Outstanding Units Sold; Kay Murdock - Most Outstanding Production for Units Sold; The Ryan Blackorby Team - Most Oustanding Team in Listings, Sold Units and Production.  Cindy Brownfield won the Dewey E. Wilkins Memorial Award for exemplifying high standards of service to the reas estate industry and the community.  Cindy has been a Realtor since 1978 and is the managing broker for the Traders lake of the Woods office.  Jeff Kolbus also announced new agents joining the company.  Realtors Diane Shipton, Rose Melz, and Ryan Yancy have joined the Camp Street Crossing office in East Peoria and Realtors Kate Wood and Dori Bailey are in the main office at 721 W. Lake in Peoria. 
  • Pearl Companies recently appointed Dorene Burkhalter as their Senior Vice President of Human Resources.  She has filled the role of Pearl's interim Vice President of Human Resources since November 2009 and has been a Human Resources consultant for the organization for more than 15 years. 
  • The W. D. Boyce Council, Boy Scouts of America is pleased to introduce David Schwartz as the new Communications director effective immediately.  David brings more than five years of scouting experience and a strong educational background in he field of communications to lead the Council's enhanced communications efforts.
  • Methodist Medical Center has announced the February 2010 Employees of the Month.  The three selected were:  Mimi Cofoid for the category of Nursing.  Also selected was Lisa Frericks for non-nursing suport.  And for the category of Patient Care, Lori Kreiter was selected.  All three were honored at a hospital reception on February 17th. 
  • Methodist Medical Center has named Ryan Taylor, PharmD as Pharmacy Director.  Taylor is currently a Methodist employee and brings over 10 years of experience to the position, having served 7 years as Pharmacist and Medication Safety Officer for OSF St. Francis Medical Center and 3 years with CVS Pharmacies as Pharmacist and Pharmacist-in-charge.  He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. 
  • The Methodist Medical Center Service League presented a check for $117,000 to methodist President and CEO, Michael Bryant.  Bryant accepted the check from Dorothy Swirmicky, Service League Treasurer and Kathy MacKay, Service League President.  The money will be applied toward the purchase of a new mobile mammography united for the Breast Services Department at Methodist.  Methodist has the only mobile mammography service in central Illinois.  The Service League's gift was presented during the League's Annual Spring Luncheon on February 18th. 
  • A Methodist Medical Center nurse in Home Care has received her certification in Gerontology by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  The five-year certification was awarded to Marianne Sepich, RN.  Sepich successfully completed the Gerontological Nurse Examination. 
  • The Methodist College of Nursing will be hosting an open house on Saturday, March 27th.  The 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. open house will allow those interested in nursing and nursing education to meet faculty, staff, and students as well as see the state of the art Learning Resource Center and browse the on-campus library.  For additional information, call 672-5513 or go online to www.mcon.edu. 
  • Methodist Medical Center announces their Mobile Mammography Schedule for March.  There is no need for a doctor's order for a screening mammogram if you're 40 or over.  If you are uninsured or underinsured, let them know when you call for appointment.  You may qualify for a free mammogram.  Call 671-8282 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

  • The American Heart Association Certification Center has awarded Sandy Pryor, RN of Methodist medical Center in Peoria, the designation of Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management.  The CPHRM is a national credential that distinguishes an individual as being amont the elite in a critical field of healthcare management. 
  • Children’s Hospital of Illinois and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) are pleased to announce that Kay Saving, M.D. has been certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), the only downstate physician to earn Board certification. The November 2009 certifying exam was the first of its kind. It came about after front line providers of child abuse services and pediatricians petitioned the ABP to establish child abuse pediatrics as a formal subspecialty, which it did in 2006. In November 2009, approximately 200 physicians considered expert in child abuse treatment were the first to sit for the child abuse pediatrics certification exam. Dr. Saving serves as Medical Director of the Pediatric Resource Center (PRC), Children’s Hospital of Illinois, and as UICOMP Professor of Pediatrics. UICOMP’s Pediatric Resource Center has been evaluating children for abuse and neglect since 1993. Each year the center’s physicians and staff members serve more than 300 children from 40 counties in Illinois.
  • Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing awarded Bachelor of Science in nursing degrees to 72 students, Master of Science in nursing degrees to 11 students, and one Post Graduate Certificate during its December graduation ceremony. BSN students graduating Summa Cum Laude: East Peoria: Suzanne Rometti. Other area students receiving BSN degrees: East Peoria: Krissy Coffman, Rebecca Hall, Samantha Rohman, John Sholl, Jillian Stiles.
  • OSF announces the most recent winner of the DAISY Award, which recognizes outstanding nursing care.  The award was presented to Meika Claerhout who works in the Emergency Department. 
  • Mark and Renee Spenny, longtime volunteers for the Heart of Illinois United Way, will chair the 2010 United Way campaign. Mark Spenny is President and CEO of CEFCU, the Peoria area's largest locally owned financial institution. He earned his undergraduate degree in Finance at Western Illinois University, and his MBA at Bradley University. He currently serves on the Board of the CEO Roundtable, the OSF College of Nursing, and the American Red Cross Central Illinois Chapter. He has also served for a number of years on the United Way Campaign Cabinet. Renee Spenny has been employed in real estate title and loans since moving to the Peoria area in 1990. A member of the United Way's campaign cabinet for many years, she has also volunteered for Christmas in April, the March of Dimes, the OSF Foundation, and served as a chairperson for the Center for Prevention of Abuse’s annual Duck Race.

  • The Proctor Health Care Foundation will host a free estate planning seminar on Tuesday, March 30, and again Tuesday, April 6, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in Classroom I of the Proctor Professional Building (adjacent hospital) at 5409 N. Knoxville Avenue. The speaker, Ketra Mytich, is a well-known local attorney concentrating in estate planning. Ketra Mytich has been a practicing attorney for more than thirty years. She is licensed to practice law in Illinois, Wisconsin and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Mytich started her legal career with the Small Business Administration and later she was legal counsel to a Fortune 100 Company with responsibility for their benefit and pension plans. Today, Ms. Mytich focuses her practice in the field of estate planning, charitable giving, and business succession planning. Paul E. Macek, Proctor Hospital’s President and CEO, will be on hand to meet seminar participants. Light refreshments will be provided. For interested individuals, a tour of Proctor Hospital will follow our presentation. Seats are free, but limited.   • Congratulations to Lynn Kelch, LPN, Family Maternity Center, recipient of the January 210 PEP Award.  The Proctor Employee Personified (PEP) award is presented monthly to employees that demonstrate outstanding efforts in quality and leadership. 
  • Proctor Hospital announces that Sam Serven has been named the Knox County Outstanding young Farmer for 2009.  Lou Tenarvitz, Client Relations director and Young Farmer Award program coordinator at Proctor Hospital presented the award to Serven at the January Knox County Farm Bureau meeting in Galesburg.
